I recently watched a video that Hank Preston (@hfpreston) recorded talking about how Cisco utilizes Netbox as a source of truth for their new DevNet datacenter. As I embark on my automation learning, I decided that the best way is to replicate what Cisco is doing for its datacenter. Now, I don’t have a full datacenter of switches to manage, so I will be trying to implement it with Cisco Modeling Labs.
I do not know what exact steps Cisco takes to accomplish this, but this will be my take on it. I have a generic blueprint of what I want to accomplish with this series but some items that might change along the way depending on what other tools I find or updates that come out.
- Netbox
- AWX
- pyATS
- Cisco Modeling Labs
- adnanh/webhook
My next post of this series will be on how to install Netbox on an Ubuntu Server. I then plan to follow that up with a dive into Netbox, exploring the different settings and the full API Netbox delivers. During these posts, if there is anything that I could improve on or if you have any questions, please leave a comment below. I will try my best to respond quickly.
